Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 1977

1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am

In the second half of the 1970s, the Trans Am version of the Pontiac Firebird saw its popularity surge. The cousin of the Chevrolet Camaro, which had always had some success with consumers, did indeed live its moment of glory with the release of the movie Smokey and the Bandit in 1977.

The latter had a monster effect on sales and the popularity of the model. And the numbers don’t lie. Indeed, 84,063 Firebirds were sold in 1975 and 110,000 in 1976. After the movie, this number climbed to 155,736 and 197,285, respectively in 1977 and 1978. And yet, the car hadn’t changed a bit. It is rather her on-screen performances that transformed people’s perceptions of the model.

So much so that in the months following the feature film debut, Pontiac struggled to meet the demand, which surged 700% in record time.

Over time, the myth has somewhat faded, but it is back in force these days. We are witnessing an upsurge in the popularity of Bandit editions identical to the one we offer. Our version is authentic (match number). Full restoration This Firebird Trans Am was able to drive when it got purchased at an auction, but it was in great need of attention. We entrusted it to the Quebec group CCR Technologie de Delson to undergo a full-on rotisserie restoration. Nothing was left aside, as our photos show. Both the body and the interior or the engine compartment are now in impeccable shape.

As for the model itself, here are some notes on the Bandit edition that Pontiac was selling back in 1977. First, let’s remember that its standard equipment had something very interesting under the hood. It included the famous 6.6L (400 cubic inch) V8 T/A, a four-speed automatic transmission (HydraMatic), power steering, power boosters, bucket seats with center console, rear spoiler, a Formula steering wheel as well as rally instrumentation with rev counter. As a bonus, the model featured here is equipped with the Special Edition package. The latter added the T-top with removable glass panels, aluminum wheels with gold accents and a slew of decals of the same color all around the car. These editions are constantly gaining in value on the market; the time to invest is now … just like having fun on the road. Our Pontiac Trans Am Firebird Bandit Special Edition is offered at the price of 129 995$.
