1963 Ford Galaxie

Galaxie Manual

Initially launched as a higher-trim model in the Fairlane 500 lineup in 1959. Ford Motor Company intended on using the Galaxie to launch new safety features, such as “safety anchors” and child-proof rear door locks. Back in the 1960s, car enthusiasts took their talking on the track. That’s where the Galaxie showed its true colors. More specifically, in the “Space Race” as known as NASCAR!

For the 1963 season, the FIA and NASCAR governing boards set new regulations to make racing more interesting. Engine sizes were limited to 428 cubic inches. Automakers were also required to sell 500 examples of their race cars. Thus the Ford Galaxie 500XL “R-Code” was born. Developed in partnership with famed racecar driver Caroll Shelby, the “R-Code” Galaxie included a fine-tuned version of the 427 dual carburated 4 barrel engine found in the AC Cobra packing a hefty 425hp and 480lb-ft of torque mated to a 4-speed Toploader manual transmission. In addition, Ford swapped the aluminum panels for fiberglass and added heavy-duty brakes and suspension systems.

According to Ford built 3084 examples of the “R Code”. To this day 48 are still on the road today. This is your opportunity to own a piece of history.
